Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters

The term "Ancient Planter" is applied to those persons who arrivedinVirginia before 1616, remained for a period of three years, paidtheirpassage, and survived the massacre of 1622. They received thefirstpatents of land in the new world as authorized by Sir Thomas Dale in1618for their personal adventure.

Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters is an incorporatednon-profitsociety whose purpose is to honor and perpetuate the memory ofthe AncientPlanters; to promote historical and genealogical research; toinspirepatriotism; and to enhance fellowship among those of similarinterests.

The Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters was founded October13,1991 in Raleigh, North Carolina. Membership is limited to descendantsofAncient Planters. Persons unknown to members of the Society maysubmitthe name of their ancestor with a letter of endorsement. Aninvitationmay then be issued. An invitation is valid for one year fromthe date itis issued.

Persons under the age of 21 may become Junior Members upontheapproval of application papers and payment of application fee. Theypayno yearly dues.
