At the age of ten years he moved with his parents to Bloomfield, where helived until 1861, when in October of that year he enlisted in Company B,Eighty-fifth New York Volunteers, and served with them two years. He hadbeen with them a short time when he was attacked with typhoid fever, andfrom that to rheumatism, until he was unfit for service, and was musteredout in August, 1863. He returned to Canandaigua and engaged in farming,and has since followed that occupation.
