Gooding, Spencer S

He was educated in the common schools, Canandaigua Academy and LimaSeminary. In 1853 he began reading the law in the office of M. O. Wilder,at Bristol, and in the spring of 1855 he went into the office of Hon. E.G. Lapham and Judge J. C. Smith, with whom he remained until admitted tothe bar in September, 1855. He was afterwards admitted to the UnitedStates and circuit courts. He has ever since practiced his profession inCanandaigua.

Mr. Gooding has always taken an active interest in politics, and has heldseveral political offices. In 1858 he was elected county treasurer, andre-elected in 1861, and in 1880 he was elected police justice andre-elected in 1884. Mr. Gooding is a member of Canandaigua Lodge No. 294,Excelsior Chapter 164, and Zenobia Commandery of Palmyra No. 42.
