Fact 1: 1 OCT 1898 Bowie, Montague County, Texas -- Don Collins does notexplain; perhaps burial date.
Daniel Harnbright Mabry (Russell, Patrick, Joel, Ephraim, Hinchia,Francis) was born on 8 April 1840 in Benton (now Calhoun) County,Alabama, the fifth of six children born to Russell A. Mabry and his firstwife, Ann Champion. It is likely that Daniel''s mother, Ann, died at thetime of the birth of Daniel''s younger sister, Nancy Ann Mabry, about 1843or shortly thereafter. Daniel was only six years old when his fathermoved to Hunt County, Texas and married his second wife, Mary Atterberryand only twelve years old when his step mother died giving birth to hishalf brother, Albert Pinkney Mabry in December 1852. A short time laterhis father married Mary Atterberry''s sister, Sarah Atterberry. When theCivil War began it seemed like every young male in the south eithervolunteered or was drafted into the Confederate Army. Russell Mabry hadfive sons old enough to fight and all five of them served as Confederatesoldiers. What may be even more unusual is that all five of them survivedthe War and returned home when it was over. The only member of the familywho did survive the War was Russell Mabry, who died sometime in 1865while on a trip to Arkansas to take supplies to his five soldierssons.Daniel H. Mabry enlisted on 20 Aug 1861 at Waxahachie, Texas in alocal cavalry company, know as the Ellis County Blues under Col. WilliamH. Parsons. This unit was later became Company H. of the 12th TexasCavalry, C. S. A. His name is shown on a muster roll of Parson''s Regimentof Texas Mounted Volunteers at Camp Hebert near Hempstead, Arkansas on 28October 1861. Daniel Harnbright Mabry was first married on 18 August1867 to Mary Elizabeth McKey by whom he had two children. After herdeath, which probably occurred in 1871 or early 1872, he married a secondtime in Cleburne, Texas on 19 September 1872 to Rachel Belle Murdock, daughter of John M. Murdock and Nancy R. Goodnight. Daniel and Rachel hadten children. Daniel Mabry died on 30 September 1898 and his widow,Rachel, died 17 February 1929 in Mineral Wells, Texas. They are buried inBlock A, Lot 28 of the Elmwood Cemetery in Bowie, Texas.
