"Thunder & Lightning" by Shurtleff. Page 50:
Soon after this, on the twenty third of June 1666, happened the terrificthunder-storm which is so graphically described in the letter of Rev.Mr. Arnold. At the time of this storm there were fourteen persons in thecommon sitting-room of the house of Mr. Phillips. Perhaps ther were theyfollowing:--Mr. John Phillips and his wife Grace; Jeremiah Phillips, ayoung man of about twenty years of age, son of Mr. Phillips; Grace andHannah Holloway, the two children of MRs. Phillips by her former husband;Mr. William Shurtleff and his wife Elizabeth, and their sons William andThomas; and finally, Mr. Timothy Rogers, the individual who related thecircumstances to Mr. Arnold, the writer of the letter which has been themeans of preserving many of the particulars of this sad event.

MARRIAGES FROM THE EARLY RECORDS OF MARSHFIELD, MASS.
[Communicated by MISS M. A. THOMAS.]
[The following list comprises the marriages found recorded in the TownBooks of Marshfield from the first organization of the town, in 1642, tothe year 1729. In some instances, it will be seen, there were nomarriages recorded for two or three consecutive years; and from 1702 to1709 there is a deficiency of over six years. The transcriber, whoseaccuracy is proverbial in the Old Colony, made her collection fromtattered and scattered pages of the record, and therefore the facts areplaced in the order in which they were found, and are not sochronologically arranged as she otherwise would have desired. Some of theearliest are copied in full, to show the manner of the originalregistrations; others are contracted for convenience. Where she knew thefemales to be widows, she has so noted by adding the word "widow" inbrackets. The names of the magistrates and clergymen before whom themarriages were solemnized, are generally added; those which took placeafter 1709 were chiefly by Rev. Mr. Gardner. N. B. S.]
