Leuthardt, Rudolf

BIOGRAPHY: Received his formal training as a nurseryman and came to theUS under the sponsorship of Erick Hubert Lemmen, his uncle and a localduck farmer who originally came from the Düsseldorf area. He had tocommit himself to working on the duck farm for a specified number ofyears, kind of a bondage system, before he could go off on his own. Andas he would always remind Grandma, he had a couple of bucks and a newsuit and hat and shoes when he arrived in the States, whereas Grandma wasbare assed when she arrived.

DEATH: After a night of playing Bingo and pinching old ladies he camehome and while sitting in his chair experienced chest pains. He calledto his wife of more than 50 years Florence Gooding Leuthardt to call 911. When the paramedics arrived, he was already gone. His first known heartattack was at age 50, causing him to retire from farming.
