Carl called my grandparents, Ernest and Sula Perry Hasten "Cousin Ernestand Cousin Sula". Not sure why, except that his 1st wife was a 1stcousin to Ernest. Too,one of his sisters, Ora, was married to one ofGrandma''s cousin''s, Raymond Perry. Now that I think about it, all theTrouts called Grandma and Grandpa "Cousin Sula and Cousin Ernest".Anyhow, one March rainy night in 1970 or 1971 night (not long beforeGrandma died) he drove out to the Hasten farm, apparently just to visit.It was really unlike him for he seldom visited except when he wanted somehelp to get something done. I can still hear Grandpa saying, "Wonderwhat''s wrong with Carl, seems like somethings bothering him, but he justwouldn''t spit it out." Later, we learned Carl was having surgery on hisfoot.
