Biography
He organized several churches in southern Alabama and western Florida.His primary church was the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Bluff Springs,FL, which has been continuously active since 1856. The Pleasant HillCemetery is also known as the Crary Cemetery and is adjacent to thePleasant Hill Baptist Church.

He was elected Escambia County Surveyor and also a member of theEscambia County School Board in 1885.

The "Escambia County Heritage Book" documents more of his life andincludes his photograph.

The following excerpt is from an article Daniel Marc Ward contributed tothe Escambia County Gen-Web project:

"At one time Bryars and his family would walk four and a half miles tothe small railroad community of William’s Station, which would later berenamed Atmore, and go into the sawmill shop room belonging to JohnRoberts. His daughters would quickly sweep the floors of all the sawdustwhile their father carried in sawed-off pine blocks and laid boardsacross them for benches. After the Sunday services he and his familywould walk the four and a half miles back to their home near Davisville,Florida."
